Rabós d’Emporda is a small picturesque Catalan village set in the foothills of the Pyrenean mountains. Its location is unique – by the river Orlina with its wild turtles - and the environmental beauty is exceptional. Vineyards have been cultivated here for centuries.
Our vineyard is an Organic vineyard and therefore our grapes and wine are certified made from Organically grown grapes. Great care is taken to ensure the natural beauty of the environment is captured in our grapes.
The grapes are picked by hand and we select the harvest date according to the ripeness and complexity we find in the grapes. This is achieved not only from analysis of the sugars, it also comes from tasting the grapes and assessing their potential to make great wine.
Once picked, the wines are fermented to extract the maximum potential from the grapes. Following the alcoholic fermentation the malolactic fermentation also takes place, in wine barrels or in stainless steel deposits. The wine is then aged for 12 to 18 months in demi-muids barrels – 500 litres – thus developing an equilibrium between the roundness of the tannins and the complexity of the aromas.
Once we are satisfied with the quality of the ageing and the equilibrium in the wine we undertake the final blending and finning of the wine. Upon which we bottle the wine by hand under gravity – needless to say we also label and pack by hand too.
The wine is a blend of four varietals: Cabernet, Merlot, Garnatxa Negra and Carignane – a powerful rich and complex wine and is the natural expression of its roots. We have taken great care to ensure the organic credentials of the wine and minimise the use of additives.
This wine has truly been crafted by hand. From the picking to the bottling we used our knowledge and artisanal methods to elaborate it. Please, where possible, decant the wine a few hours before drinking and serve at room temperature. The aromatic expression will be enhanced and you will be able to appreciate the length and complexity of the tannins at the right temperature.
